January

Happy New Year! Praise God — 2023 has arrived! May we as a church family continue to stretch and grow in faith as we tap into God’s power and allow Him to work all things good through us in the coming year.

On behalf of the staff, we would like to thank you for the love offering we were blessed with. We are so grateful for your generosity, support and encouragement. We look forward to being a part of God’s plans for Bridges over the next year!

SUNDAY MORNINGS

11:00 am on campus and live-streamed via Facebook or on our website; or on-demand via the website anytime.

STEP UP: Entrusted with the Gospel
Have you ever felt insignificant, weak, or ashamed? Do you struggle to make changes in life? When we feel insignificant, we can lose sight of what matters and how the power of the Gospel can help us change. Paul’s second letter to Timothy reminds us that God not only entrusted us with the Gospel, but He also gives us a spirit of power, love, and self-discipline that empowers us to press on and overcome the challenges in our faith and life.
January 08: “Stir Up,” 2 Timothy 1:1-7, Nate Glaze
January 15: “Speak Up,” 2 Timothy 1:8-18, Ken Jung
January 22: “Sign Up,” 2 Timothy 2:1-13, Nate Glaze
January 29: “Live Up,” 2 Timothy 2:14-26, Student Takeover

 WHAT’S HAPPENING AT BRIDGES

New Year’s Day Gathering
Join us on Sunday, January 1 for a worship gathering, including communion & pancake breakfast, in the Bridges Gym. Afterward, we will gather and head to Mission Peak for a relaxed-pace hike. (No worship gathering in the Worship Center)

  • 10:30 AM – Pancakes
  • 11 AM – Worship, Communion, & Fellowship
  • 12:30 PM Hike (gather at the Gym for a comfortable-pace, 1–2-hour hike on the Panoramic trail on Mission Peak – Mission Peak Panoramic Trail) Bring: snacks and water, good shoes (it will likely be a bit muddy). Looks like the day itself will be nice (dry, in the mid-fifties), but always good to bring sweater and/or windbreaker.

Student Camp Fundraiser Lunch
We are so encouraged by your continued support of our lunch events. We are making great progress on our camp scholarship fund. Our next lunch is Jan. 29. We’ll be serving a Chinese-style lunch that includes chicken teriyaki & veggies, rice, spring roll and a drink. $10 per lunch; $35 for a family 4-pack.

Jesus & Justice Collective – January 15, 2-3:45 PM
You are invited to a Jesus and Justice Collective event in the Bridges Café. We’ll take a look at racial trauma, and its impact, and discuss ways we might respond as the family of Christ. View the flyer and sign up HERE. Yummy snacks included! Ask Debbie any questions at debbiev@bridgescc.org.

WOW – Women of the Word
Join us as we launch into a new study: “The Gospel of Mark: The Jesus We’re Aching For” with Lisa Harper.  We have two meeting options: Thursday mornings from 9-11:30 AM on campus & Zoom, January 12 – April 20 (register with Barbara at barbchandl@sbcglobal.net.); or Wednesday nights from 7-8:30 PM on Zoom  January 11 – May 17 (register with Alice at mathias.j@comcast.net.) See the FLYER.

Men’s Monthly Breakfast – January 14, 8 AM, Café
Men’s Breakfasts are starting up again on the second Saturday of every month. The topic this month will be “Brotherhood”. Come join us for food, encouragement and fellowship. Make a New Year’s Resolution and get connected with other men. Suggested donation of $5.

Rancho Genesis Initiative (Mexico Trip) – January 29, 12:30-2 PM, Gym
If you have previously been a part of the Mexico Mission Trip teams or are interested in hearing more about it and possibly joining in, please plan to attend our first informational meeting. For one memory-filled week this July 30 – August 5, 2023, our church will take two teams of “amigos” to pour Christ’s love into the lives of kids from two different Mexican orphanages. We will participate with the kids in Rancho Genesis’ full summer camp program and serve the Ranch by participating in a couple of their projects. This trip is a great opportunity for both individuals and families. Sign up HERE to RSVP. Please contact Debbie with any questions Debbiev@bridgescc.org.

Join The Team – Part-time Custodian
Bridges Facilities Ministry is hiring a part-time (25 hours a week) custodian. We are seeking someone with a trainable heart, a motivation for excellence and a desire to ensure that all publicly accessible areas of the church are clean and ready for staff and congregation use. This person must be able to follow detailed instructions and demonstrate respect for others. See full job description HERE. Contact Chuck, chuckc@bridgescc.org.

Senior Pastor Search Team Update
On Sunday, January 8, as part of the Senior Pastor search process, the Elders will host two informal Q&A sessions with Pastor Nate Glaze. You’re welcome to attend either Q&A session and they are not limited to church members. The first will be held 9:30-10:30 AM, before service in the gym (refreshments will be served). The second will be held 12:30-1:30 PM, after the service in the gym (lunch will be served).

On Sunday, January 15, we will have a congregational member vote in the gym from 10:00-10:45 AM to decide the call of Pastor Nate Glaze as Senior Pastor of Bridges Community Church. The result of the vote will be communicated later in the 11:00 AM service.

Absentee ballots – If you are a member of Bridges AND cannot attend in person on 1/15/2023, you may cast an absentee ballot after one of the two Q&A sessions on 1/8/2023.  Absentee ballots are not intended for early voting but are being made available to accommodate members who cannot attend on 1/15/2023. Absentee ballots must be cast and deposited BEFORE leaving the Q&A session.
