Bible Reading 2008

Our goal at Bridges is to have everyone “not live on bread alone, but on every Word that comes from the mouth of God”. It is through the reading of His Word we find inspiration, direction, and hope for our faith, so it is a critical component to growing in the Lord. We understand that each one of us is at a different place in life and faith, so we are providing several different reading plans that will challenge your walk with God. We encourage you to challenge yourself by:

•   Committing to read daily
•   Finding accountability (i.e. through your small group)
•   Sharing what you have been learning with friends and family

If you would like to talk to someone personally, we encourage you to stop by the Fresh Start table (Bridges Live venue) on Sunday mornings.

Bible Reading Plans

  1. Old Testament once, New Testament and Psalms twice in two years
  2. Old Testament in a year
  3. New Testament in a year
  4. Words of Jesus 4 times a year

Note: if you choose option 1 (which we recommend) you only need to read the “Family” section. This is a commitment to read 2 chapters a day. Also, we highly recommend reading “For the Love of God - Volume 2” as a daily devotional companion with your Scripture reading.

Robert Murray M’Cheyne (McCheyne) was a 19th century Scottish minister who made a great contribution to our faith by preparing a Bible Reading plan that took readers through the New Testament and Psalms twice a year, and through the rest of the Bible once each year (approximately 4 chapters a day).

D.A Carson slightly modified this reading plan by stretching M’Cheyne’s plans to two years (2 chapters a day) and supplied his own commentary concurrent to the reading. Other Bible reading plans include reading the Old Testament in a year, or New Testament in a year, or reading words of Jesus 4 times a year.
